The St. Joseph Library will now be able to offer 3D Printing services at their downtown location at 927 Felix St.

Thanks to a $2,000 grant from the Missouri Institute of Library and Museum Services the downtown branch of the St. Joseph Library was able to purchase the library systems first 3D printer and filament materials.

Library staff said the new printer is a great tool to provide creative services to the community with little or no charge to the public.

Assistant Librarian Robbie Johnson has been hosting seminars for people to learn more about the uses of 3D printed materials and make them aware of the library’s new services.

“We’re wanting to give patrons the experience of the 3D printing manufacturing without needing to go to any classes, without needing to do any tuition. We want to bring this technology to as many people as we want,” Johnson said.

Library staff said the 3D printing services are available for all patrons of the library without outstanding debts. The first printing project is free for each patron, additional prints will have a $1 charge if a project that takes less than two hours to complete and a $2 charge that for any print that takes more time.

If you have questions or a project you would like printed at the library, contact Robbie Johnson at rjohnson@sjpl.lib.mo.us.
