1 killed, 5 injured in Highway 59 crash

The crash happened on Highway 59 just outside Atchison around 12 p.m. Thursday.

(ATCHISON, KS) A crash along Highway 59 has killed one individual and sent five others to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

According to Corporal Rob Dudeck of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, officers responded to a two vehicle collision on highway 59 just outside the city limits of Atchison, Kansas around noon.

Dudeck said slick conditions on the roadway led one vehicle to strike another vehicle traveling in opposite directions along Highway 59.

Officers pronounced one person dead and five more were transported to the hospital with the extent of their injuries undetermined.

The names of the victims have not been identified. The accident is being investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Rain chances are set to continue on Sunday with temperatures back in the 60s. Rain chances will linger into next week. The rain will be on the lighter side Monday into Tuesday. Ran showers will increase with the possibility for a few thunderstorms Wednesday into Thursday. Temperatures will continue warm into next week with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
