2 critically hurt after truck strikes mall department store

Police were called to the East Hills Mall after a truck backed into the JC Penny store.

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Two people were critically injured after a truck hit a section of the East Hills Mall late Friday night. 

Police responded to the scene just before 11:00 p.m., they said a Chevy Silverado somehow backed into the building at or near the JCPenny department store, striking a pedestrian.

The pedestrian along with another occupant of the truck were taken to the hospital with critical injuries. 

Police continue to investigate what led up to the crash.

Clouds will slowly build into the area late tonight as a cold front approaches the area. A few areas of sprinkles could develop overnight as the front approaches. The front will move through tomorrow morning into the afternoon bringing some slightly cooler temperatures. Most of tomorrow will be dry and sunny with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Highs will be in the 60s throughout the rest of the work week with dry and sunny conditions. Rain chances will start to increase overnight Saturday into Sunday. Highs will be in the 70s to start next week.
