2 killed in head-on crash near Chillicothe

(CHILLICOTHE, Mo.) Two people were killed in a head-on crash near Chillicothe Thursday.

The accident happened around 6:53 p.m. on U.S. 65 south of Chillicothe.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said 23-year-old Nicholas Lawson, of Chillicothe, crossed the center line and hit 49-year-old Orville Cooper, of Bosworth, head-on.

Lawson was taken to the hospital where he later died. Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said Lawson was not wearing a seat belt.
