(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Time is running out to help those who need it most this holiday season, as the AFL-CIO's Adopt-A-Family Christmas program has 263 families still in need of being adopted according to staff.

"We're a little bit nervous because of the climate throughout the year with donations and other organization's fundraiser's, we know everybody is struggling," AFL-CIO Executive Director Penny Adams said.

Additionally and compared to last year, monetary donations are down by over $8,700.

"Everybody deserves one outstanding day and let's make Christmas that day. I know everybody has children out there have toys that they rarely play with and are in excellent shape we will be glad to take those items as well," Adams said.

If you have never adopted before the cost to adopt one child under 8-years-old is estimated at $25.

"I encourage folks to participate even if it's not through our program. If it helps someone's Christmas be a memory and a blessing," Adams said.

With so many families still needing to be adopted, the agency will be open the next two Saturdays beginning December 16 and 23 from 9 a.m-1 p.m.

Another beautiful day across northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. A weak cold front has moved by and we will see some cooling across the area. Highs will cool down in to the 50s Wednesday and Thursday.
