Benefit held for St. Joseph family

Paige funk went into labor at 32 weeks, giving birth to a premature baby girl.

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo) A benefit was held for a St. Joseph family in need on Saturday.

Paige and Brian Funk's newborn daughter Amelia was delivered at 32 weeks, weighing only 4 pounds and had to spend weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.

Brian Funk's employer, Biozyme Incorporated held the benefit to raise money for the family to help cover medical costs.

The family said Amelia's time in the NICU was challenging due to the distance. 

"We commuted every day for three weeks," Paige Funk, Amelia's mother said.  

"It's been tough, but we've had a lot of support from family and friends and my work." Brian Funk, Amelia's father said. 

The family said Amelia is now at 7 pounds and recovering well at home. A dart's tournament, silent auction and a raffle were just some of the ways people could help the family.

Humid and warm conditions are set to continue today. Today will not be quite as warm as yesterday, however temperatures will still warm into the lower 90s this afternoon with heat index values approaching triple digits. There are a few isolated showers and thunderstorms this morning, mainly east of I-35. That will be possible off and on today, however a better chance for showers and storms will return tonight into the overnight hours. A few storms could be on the strong to severe side overnight. Scattered showers and storms will continue off and on mainly through the morning and afternoon hours on Saturday. Temperatures will be much cooler on Saturday with highs in the mid 80s. Dry and sunny conditions will take over on Sunday and continue into next week as temperatures stay seasonal.
