(St.Joseph,MO) The historic Missouri Theater will be transformed into a magical swamp this weekend as the Creative Arts Productions (CAP) puts on Shrek Jr. the Musical.

The show features 44 young actors between the ages of 9 and 18 singing and dancing as the iconic characters from the 2001 film Shrek.

“It’s pretty much based off the movie that you have seen in cinema theaters. It’s a story of love, it’s a story of celebrating our individuality and celebrating the growth of the students in the process of this camp,” Director Roger Baldwin said

Baldwin said the month long summer program helps to kids build up their confidence through performance.

“It’s always challenging every year, but it’s a wonderful experience I wouldn’t trade it for the world. The kids are amazing, the staff is great. It’s always a growth experience every year that we work together,” Baldwin said.

The show premieres Saturday, July 28 at 7pm at the Missouri Theater, with an encore performance Sunday at 2pm. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at the box office before the show or online at

We have had rain off and on this Saturday across northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. Scattered showers will continue off and on through the evening and overnight hours but should start to clear up as we head towards the morning. Temperatures will slowly start to warm Sunday into Monday as sunshine returns and conditions start to dry out. Another cold front is headed our way Monday night and that will bring us a chance for rain and possibly some snow into Tuesday morning as the colder air surges into our area. Temperatures look to stay unseasonably cool through the rest of the next week.
