(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Less than five weeks away from an election, and candidates for St. Joseph School District's Board of Education are gearing up their campaigns.

On Thursday, five of the seven running showed up at a meet and greet forum at East Hills Library. The St. Joseph Tea Party Patriots welcomed board canidates to discuss their plans for the future of the district and anwser questions from the community program.

Coordinators say the main goal of the forum was to give candidates a chance to connect with the public.

"There is not enough opportunity for the people that are running for school board to have the public ask them questions one-on-one so that the public can hear about them, so they would have more information to make a better informed vote," Tea Party Patriots member Virginia Weigum said.

School board candidates will meet with members of the district PTA council next Monday at the Troester Media Center.

Monday saw temperatures climb into the 90s once again and that trend will continue for at least one more day before cooler air moves in by this weekend. Tonight, expect a mild and humid night but we will stay dry. Skies will be partly cloudy with lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s.
