Car crashes into creek, two life-flighted to KU Medical

Two people were life-flighted to a hospital after the car in which they were driving crashed into a creak north of Atchison Sunday afternoon.

(Atchison County, Kan.) Two people were life-flighted to a hospital after the car in which they were driving crashed into a creek north of Atchison Sunday afternoon.

County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of a car going westbound on River Rd before driving off the Independence Creek Bridge.

The Department said there was a total of five people in the car at the time of the crash. Three were taken to the local hospital. Two were life-flighted to KU Medical Center for life-threatening injuries.

No word yet on the identities but at least some of the group were in high school.

The Sheriff's Department has handed the investigation off to Kansas State Highway Patrol.

We'll have clear skies & calm winds overnight. We could see some patchy fog develop by early Sunday morning with lows in the 40s. We'll continue to see warm temperatures and some sunshine on Sunday with highs in the upper 60s. A cold front is forecast to move through late Sunday evening bringing in rain.
