St. Joseph City Council candidates had one last chance to impress voters during a forum Thursday night.

Missouri Western hosted a forum for candidates vying for the four open district seats.

Four of the eight candidates appeared before the sparse crowd.

They answered questions on crime, downtown, jobs and the future of the city.

It was not lost on the debate's moderator that just five days away from the election, there wasn't much interest in the forum.

On Tuesday, voters will elect a new mayor, make decisions on two at-large city council seats and four district seats.

In the school board race, seven candidates are vying for three open seats.

The Buchanan County Clerk's office is forecasting about a 30 percent turnout.

This evening the winds will lessen up a bit and temperatures will still be on the mild-side. Any Friday night plans should be just fine with temperatures cooling down into the 50s. Overnight, clouds will increase and rain is likely towards Saturday morning. Lows are going to be in the upper 40s and lower 50s.
