Elwood police officer charged with sexual battery

(ELWOOD, Ks.) A police officer in Elwood, Kansas has been charged with sexual battery and mistreatment of a confined person.

Aaron Matthew Newberry, 30, made his first court appearance in a Doniphan County courtroom on Monday.

According to MSC News, a criminal complaint filed in court alleged the female victim was "detained or confined" by Newberry at the time of the crime.

Newberry was arrested by the Elwood Police Department on July 21.

Elwood police officials have yet to comment on Newberry's status with the department following his arrest.
