St. Mary 49 - Western 80

Western women's basketball led from start to finish, dominating St. Mary 80-49 on friday afternoon in the Fairfield Inn Thanksgiving Classic.

The Griffons sprinted out of the gates early, scoring the first seven points of the game and used a 19-2 run in the first six and half minutes of the first quarter. MWSU held the Spires to eight points in the opening quarter and 14 points for the first half.

"I though our kids were really locked in," head coach Rob Edmission said after the win. "Defensivley, our intensity was there. We has 22 assists on the night. We shared the ball better. We moved without the ball better. I thought our kids did a great job rebounding off the loss. Our practices on Monday and Tuesday were intense in terms od rebounding and doing some things better. Our kids obviously took that to heart."

The Griffons will get Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m in the Missouri Western Fieldhouse.

Northwest 47 - Rockhurst 65

The Northwest women's basketball team fell to Rockhurst University, 62-47, on Friday afternoon in their first game of the Fairfield Inn Thanksgiving Classic.

Northwest shot just 25.4 percent from the field and 20 percent from the three-point line.

"Honestly, we were prety soft on the offensive end getting bumped, getting hit," Northwest head coach Buck Scheel said. "Right now, we're in a state where we want someone else to take the initiative and that's not going to change until we get a lot more fight. I told the girls after the loss that we were basically like a punching bag for about 40 minutes tonight and that's unacceptable."

Northwest will take on St. Mary Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m in the Missouri Western Fieldhouse.
