(ST. JOSEPH, Mo) A fundraiser was held in honor of a local man whose life was cut short Saturday evening .
Family and friends on Cody Harter came out for the first annual "Kick Back for Cody" fundraiser.
The event is raising money for a scholarship in Harter's name. In May, Harter lost his life in a road rage incident on a highway in Lee's Summit. The idea was launched by Harter's mother who saw an opportunity to create something that would give joy to others out of the tragedy.
"We're going to make something positive and wonderful come from it, cody gave to everyone he could, and what we've done is we have established a memorial scholarship in his name." Kerrie Harter, Cody's mother said.
The Cody Michael Harter Scholarship will be awarded to two graduating St. Joseph high school seniors every year, with interests in music, theater, motorbiking as well as other interests of Harter's. At last check, the event has already raised around $10,000. The family hopes to make this a yearly event.
