Fatal Car Crash Kills One

A person is dead after a fatal car crash around 5:30 p.m. Saturday near Pickett Road and South Belt Highway.

(ST. JOSEPH. Mo.) A person is dead after a fatal car crash in St. Joseph Saturday evening.

St. Joseph Police officers responded to that crash around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Pickett Road and South Belt Highway.

According to SJPD officials, the crash involved two cars but would not provide any further details about people, injuries, or causes.

Police said the identity of the victim has not been released as they are still working to notify next of kin.

The St. Joseph Police Crash Team investigators were still on site reconstructing the scene and analyzing the crash for several hours. Police blocked the intersection and sent traffic out of the area as they investigated.

Dangerous heat will move into the area today with highs reaching the upper 90s to triple digits. Heat index values will likely be between 100-106. Use caution when spending time outside this afternoon. Hot and humid conditions will continue on Friday with highs back in the upper 90s and lower 100s with heat index values reaching triple digits. A cold front will move through the area Friday afternoon into the evening bringing the chance for a few showers and thunderstorms. Scattered rain chances will continue through the weekend with highs in the lower 90s. Highs in the 80s will return for the beginning of next week.
