A St. Joseph man has started a fundraiser to help others in need stay warm this winter.

26-year-old R.J. Jackson was inspired to help raise money for space heaters when he learned of an elderly woman in town did not have a furnace.

Currently, Jackson has raised $325 through a GoFundMe account here to help others in the community and plans to donate at least over 10 more space heaters to the AFL-CIO Community Agency.

Jackson says by supplying new space heaters he can help save lives for many winters to come.

"We're a town of 80,000 people and that's really not that big, everybody knows everyone on some level. We're all neighbors so we all should be looking out for each other," Jackson said.

"We appreciate the help because agencies can't do it on their own it needs individuals, it needs the community," Penny Adams, AFL-CIO Executive Director said.

Jackson adds that he wants to keep raising money and helping others until the need is met.
