Griffon Softball's Winning Streak Ends After Split

The Western softball team was unable to continue their winning streak Friday in game one but bounced back in game two.

Western softball (15-18, 6-2) put their seven game win streak to the test Friday when they hosted reigning MIAA champions Central Oklahoma (19-14, 8-4).

The streak ended in game one, where the Griffons fell to the Bronchos 3-2. It was locked at two entering the final frame. Mo Selman drove in the game winning run for Central Oklahoma with a double in the top of the seventh inning.

In game two, Western had a 4-2 lead entering the fourth inning. Central Oklahoma scored two runs to tie the game. The Griffons responded in the bottom of the fifth when Riley Wilson drove in the game deciding run. Western was able to hold of Central Oklahoma the rest of the way. Winning, 5-2.

The Griffons head to Maryville Tuesday for a double header with Northwest Missouri. Both teams sit at second in the MIAA standings. First pitches are 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday and Thursday night a cold front will move in and give us a chance for rain and t-storms. As the warm front moves in and remains stationary it will spark rain/storm chances Wednesday through Thursday. Thursday will be the warmest day of the week with a high in the lower 80s. A cold front moves back in Friday returning highs to the low 50s for the weekend.
