(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A man, woman, and two children are without a home after a fire destroyed their home Saturday night.

Fire crews responded to the 1100 block of Powell Street just before 10 p.m., after receiving calls of heavy smoke in the area.

According to St. Joseph Fire Department, a family of four lost their home to the fire but fortunately, no one was home at the time.

Investigators said initial reports show the fire started in the kitchen before quickly spreading through the house.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.

The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire.
