(CAMERON, Mo.) A 49-year-old inmate died Saturday, May 12, at the Crossroads Correctional Center in Cameron.

On May 12, inmates at the prison staged an uprising but the two events are unrelated, according to Department of Corrections spokesperson, Karen Pojmann.

State officials said 49-year-old Bennie Young died at 5:45 p.m., Saturday evening. Young was serving a 25-year sentence for first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and first degree robbery. Each offense occurring in a different county.

Prison officials said Young died of "natural causes."
