(JEFFERSON CITY) The Missouri School Board voted 5-3 Friday to remove Education Commissioner Margie Vandeven from her position.
It comes after a failed 4-4 vote last week.
"This has been an opportunity that I will forever cherish," said Vandeven. "The job of commissioner of Missouri is traditionally not a political role. But at the moment, political forces are eclipsing educational decisions."
Governor Eric Gretiens has appointed and then removed several people to the board over the last several months.
The board appointed Deputy Commissioner Roger Dorson as interim education commissioner until it finds a new school leader.
