(AGENCY, Mo.) - A local organization is teaching children the safe way to handle firearms.

The Midwest Best Handgun Instructors gave 30 children the opportunity to learn about firearms Saturday morning  at the New Harvest Church in Agency.

Sheldon Horsfall enrolled his son in the course with the hope of his child understanding how to be safe with a firearm

"I think it's part of being a responsible gunowner," Horsfall said. "Ensuring that you are responsible with your firearms and also those around you know the importance of safety with firearms."

The course taught children how to shoot a handgun and how to properly handle it.

Kids also learned the "ABCs of Gun Safety," which stands for "Always Be Careful."

The organization hopes to hold other gun safety courses in the future.
