(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.)  Forget mindful eating. On Saturday, finishing a stack of pancakes as quickly as possible will snag the winner
a championship title.

Miles Johnson, a Bishop LeBlond High School Junior, won the 65th Annual Pancake Days Fundraiser at the East Hills Shopping Center on Saturday, April 15. Johnson had to put down 14 fluffy pancakes in just 12 minutes.

"I thought I was going to throw up," Johnson said. "I might when I get home."

Droves of people came out to buy a plate of hot cakes and support the St. Joseph Lions Club.

Another contestant, Zachery Ducker, said even though he lost, the day still feels like a win.

"I got to eat a lot of pancakes today," Ducker said. "I got to eat like four plates of them."

President of the Club, Brad Campbell said the event is a fun way to give back to the community. He said this event helps provide life changing eye care to low income families.

"We help others get the glasses they need," Campbell said. "The lenses they need. The surgeries they need."

Many of the contestants said the short-term pain was worth it.

"It feels good," Johnson said. "I like to know that I gave back to the community."

Just a little bit more sunshine today across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. The air quality is much better today with the haze starting to clear out of the area. Tonight will be cool and calm with lows in the mid 60s and light winds. There is a slight chance for isolated showers tonight and tomorrow afternoon, although most of the area should stay dry. Dry and sunny conditions continue into the weekend as temperatures start to warm up again. Highs look to stay in the 80s until midweek and then start to climb into the 90s as we head into the weekend.
