(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Missouri Western State University announced a search committee will form to find the university's next president.

Western's Board of Governors voted Thursday to appoint a search committee of up to 24 people. The committee will be made up of faculty, staff, administrators and members of the community.

The board feels the search should be a community-wide effort.

"The ultimate decision for the next president is the Board of Governors, but we want to have a lot of input from lots of different people to start narrowing the group of applicants we receive down to the right two or three, maybe four," said MWSU Board of Governors Chair David Liechti.

A search firm will be hired to help guide the process.

Current president Dr. Robert Vartabedian will retire next July.
