St. Joseph police investigate explosion in manhole

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Three people are in custody after an explosion inside a manhole Tuesday morning in Midtown St. Joseph.

It happened shortly after 9:00 a.m. on the 600 block of S. 22nd Street.

The force of the blast blew the lid and concrete base off the manhole.

No one was hurt.

Witnesses said they saw a man in a red and white jersey throw something down the manhole just before the explosion.

No other information is available yet about those who were arrested.

Highs will be in the middle 40s Monday but they will continue to cool into Tuesday. Mixed precipitation and some small snow accumulations are possible through Tuesday morning. Conditions dry out for the rest of the week and temperatures will gradually climb back into the 60s by the weekend.
