Western Baseball Gets Back To Winning Ways Thursday

Missouri Western baseball gets back in the win column following, 7-5 win against Missouri Southern.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Missouri Western (15-13, 8-7) snaps a four-game losing streak with a 7-5 win over Missouri Southern (19-10, 7-8).

Fahd Shakeel was the man of the day for the Griffons. Two triples helped Western to the victory. Shakeel tripled in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 5.

In the bottom of the eighth, he drove in Nolan Meyer with a triple to make it 6-5. Ryan Fischer added an insurance run with a single to drive in Shakeel to make it, 7-5.

Game two of the series is 5 p.m. Friday at Spring Sports Complex.

Light snow, or flurries with a transition to light rain is possible for northeast Missouri and northeast Kansas Monday. Less than a 1/2" of snowfall is expected. A fairly substantial warm up is projected for Wednesday. Then a cold front will work its way through the region Wednesday night with cooler weather behind it for the end of the week.
