ST. JOSEPH, Mo.

In a total team performance, the Western men picked up a gritty 70-66 win over Northeastern State on Saturday for their first MIAA win of the season.

The star of the game was senior Wes Mitter. The sharpshooting guard finished with 17 points and connected on four of his five three-point attempts.

"I am really happy for the young man (Mitter)," head coach Brett Weiberg said after the game. "He's an outstanding kid. None of those shots that went in tonight surprised me at all. He's fully capable of doing that. In his career here, he's made big shots in the past."

"Anytime you win in this league, it's a blessing and all the hard work pays off so it feels great," Mitter said of his performance.

In all, the Western bench chipped in 37 points.

The Griffons will be back in action on Wednesday, December 6 as they host No. 1 Northwest Missouri State at 7:30 p.m. at the MWSU Fieldhouse.
