Man Dies in Workplace Accident

A man was killed in a workplace accident Monday afternoon at the American Walnut Company.

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A man was killed in a workplace accident Monday afternoon at the American Walnut Company.


According to a statement from the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), "the company reported that an employee was fatally injured on March 12 at approximately 4:30 p.m."

OSHA has opened an investigation into the incident.

According to the statement, the employee was working in the saw mill at the time of the incident. The statement added that preliminary information indicates that the deceased came into contact with operating equipment used in the facility.

OSHA stated that American Walnut reported the incident as required.

The man's identity has not been released at this time.

Cold and frosty conditions out the door this morning with temperatures in the 20s. Clouds will gradually clear today with sunshine returning by the afternoon. Temperatures will be seasonal today with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Tuesday will be the warmest day of the week with highs in the upper 40s under mostly sunny skies. Tuesday night a cold front will move through, bringing us a breezy northerly wind and some much cooler temperatures. Highs will only make it to the 20s on Wednesday, and teens on Thursday with sub zero wind chills. Dry and sunny weather looks to continue through the work week into the weekend.
