Billie Joe "Bill" Gilpin, 82, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

Born December 23, 1935, in St. Joseph, MO to Melvin and Agnus Gilpin. Bill graduated Central High School in 1953, then attended St. Joseph Junior College. He married Margie McKinsey in October of 1972. He belonged to Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the tribe of Mic-O-Say.

Bill began his career in the grocery industry at the age of 16. He became a produce manager, then manager of A&P. He then owned his own grocery store. Bill later became a sales representative for Proctor & Gamble and Acosta.

Mr. Gilpin was preceded in death by his parents and sister.

Survivors include his wife, Margie, of the home; son, Nick (Victoria) Gilpin; step-daughters, Connie (Dennis) Howe, Brenda (Randy) Jones; step-son, Daniel Archer; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, August 18 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Chapel. David Mejia officiating. Visitation begins at 2:00 PM Friday, August 17 with family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.

The good news is our temperatures will be on the rise through the week. Sundays highs will be in the middle to upper 40s and Monday is expected to be even warmer. There is a slight risk for some evening rain showers Tuesday. By midweek highs will be pushing the 50s. By the end of the week we could be seeing highs in the 60s.
