John Wayne Neill

John Wayne Neill, 63, Savannah, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph. John was born August 25, 1954, in Polo, Missouri, to Mary Irene Neill (Rosson) and John Thomas Neill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Neill and John Thomas Neill; brothers, Donald Lee, Kenneth Duane, Jesse Thomas, Teddy Joe, and Jimmy; and sister, Virginia Mildred.
John is survived by brothers, Bobby Neill of St. Joseph and David Neill of Oklahoma; sisters, Judy Vaughn (Henon) of Jacksonville, Florida, Nancy Strickland Cajipe (John) of Jacksonville, Florida, Mary Norris of Savannah, Missouri, and Carolyn Pettet (Larry) of Springfield, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews, and friends.
John was a dedicated sailor, enlisting in the U.S. Navy from 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1979. He served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk VA 52 and the USS Saratoga VF 31. He also served in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as a SAMS instructor. He was assigned to the weapons department of the U.S. Naval Air Station. John was selected as attack squadron 52’ “Knightrider of the Month” for May 1976. He was also selected “Tomcatter” of the month in September 1979.
After finishing his military career, John enjoyed traveling, seeing the sights of our great country, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Farewell Graveside Services and Interment 10:00 A.M. Thursday, Bennett Lane Cemetery, Savannah. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
