Ray Simon, 81, St. Joseph, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018, at his home.

Ray was born May 8, 1936 to Eldridge Lester and Teresa Simon and raised in the city of St. Joseph. He attended Lafayette High School and played basketball and baseball. After graduating from High School he worked 8 years in the Fire Department and 8 years in the Air National Guard.

Ray married Shirley O'Bannon from Stanberry, MO, on March 12, 1955. To that union three children were born, Stephen Ray Simon, Cynthia Sue Simon, and Clifford Warren Simon. In 1961, Ray moved his family to the state of Washington where he worked for 32 years. After retiring he moved back to St. Joseph.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Surviving family includes his wife; three children; four grandchildren, Lisa Smith, Dawn Hodge, Chloe Schultz, and Skylar Schultz; seven great-grandchildren; two nephews, Danny (Nancy) Simon, and Jerry (Sherri) Simon, and two nieces, Vicki (Richard) Davis, and Kim Hawkins.

A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Temperatures today were well above average with highs in the mid 60s under mostly sunny skies. Winds were a bit breezy at times with gusts up to 20 mph out of the south. Temperatures will continue to warm up on Thursday with highs making a run for the 70s. Sunny and dry weather will continue tomorrow. Temperatures will remain well above average on Friday before some slightly cooler air moves into the area for the weekend. Dry and sunny weather looks to continue through the weekend with highs in the mid to lower 50s.
