Raymond L. (Pete) Miner, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017.
He was born April 6, 1946, to Leo and Arvilla (Gillaspie) Miner in Marysville, Kansas.
He married Pamela Fisher on January 18, 1975, and she survives of the home.
He was a member of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church, the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce, the Marine Corps League, and the American Legion. He served on the Heartland Foundation Board and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Pete was very active in the St. Joseph Community.
Pete enlisted in the Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam War. After returning home, he finished his bachelor’s degree from Missouri Western State College. Pete enjoyed sports, reading, studying history, playing cards, and traveling with his family.
Pete was the owner of the historic D&G Restaurant for many years. In 1975, he bought the D&G from the original owner, Judy Glaser.
Pete met many people and made numerous friendships over the years. He had so many loyal customers and employees who had been with him throughout the years. He appreciated and was grateful for all of them.
In 2009, Pete had to make the heartbreaking decision to close the restaurant due to his personal health. He cherished all the stories and fond memories made at the D&G.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stanley Miner; aunt, Zell Gillaspie; uncle, Gill Gillaspie (who raised him); and their son, Rick Gillaspie.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela; daughters, Kristin Miner, and Heather Bourne and husband David; brother, Timothy Miner; Dave Gillaspie, Norma Gillaspie, and Lisa.
Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations to The American Cancer Society or The National Alzheimer’s Association. The windy weather is expected to diminish across for northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas as a area of high pressure moves in to the area on Friday. Cooler air will slowly move in from the north by late Friday night and Saturday morning. Another front will start to move through late weekend and will becoming the focus for potential showers and possibly thunderstorms over the weekend.
