(KANSAS CITY, Mo.)- The Kansas City Royals have traded off reliever Kelvin Herrera, outfielder John Jay, and third baseman Mike Moustakas this season, but don't expect general manager Dayton Moore to move starter Danny Duffy or utility man Whit Merrifield.

"The truth of the matter is, we're not close to moving Duffy or Merrifield," Moore said Tuesday on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM. "We want to acquire upper-level talent."

The Kansas City Royals have traded off reliever Kelvin Herrera, outfielder John Jay, and third baseman Mike Moustakas this season, but don't expect general manager Dayton Moore to move starter Danny Duffy or utility man Whit Merrifield.

Moore knew 2018 was going down to be a down year, but he didn't expect the team to be historically bad.

"I'm embarassed by the way our Major League team has performed," Moore said. "I didn't necessarily expect us to be in the playoffs this year, but I didn't expect us to be on pace to lose 100+ games, that's embarassing to me, personally. It's embarassing to our organization. Mr. Glass doesn't expect that either. We've got to do a better job of that. Major League players aren't paid to play, they're paid to win. It's our responsibility to get players on this Major League team that understand that. We have to go out and compete. "

The Royals sit at 32-73 with just two months to play and with the trade deadline approaching at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Moore isn't looking to make any big splashes.

"If we end up moving any of our players like that, that we have under control and have value to us, it'll be something we look at in the offseason and how can we get back Major League talent to help us win more games in 2019 and 2020," Moore said.
