...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT SATURDAY...

* TEMPERATURE...High temperatures in the middle 90s to low 100s will combine with humid conditions to bring afternoon heat index values into the 108 to 115 degree range this afternoon and into the 106 to 114 degree range for Saturday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Heat-related illnesses are possible for those spending a prolonged amount of time outdoors or those who are more susceptible to heat, such as young children and elderly. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot weather is expected, during which heat illnesses are likely. Stay in an air-conditioned building and check up on relatives and neighbors. Postpone any non-essential outdoor activities planned during the midday and afternoon. If outdoor activities are necessary, drink plenty of water, wear light and loose fitting clothing, reduce strenuous activities, and take frequent breaks. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

...EXCESSIVE HEAT CONTINUES THROUGH SATURDAY... ...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT SATURDAY...

* TEMPERATURE...High temperatures will be in the upper 90s to around 100 degrees with night time lows in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Heat index values will remain in the 105 to 115 degree range Friday afternoon, into Friday evening. Saturday afternoon and evening will bring similar conditions once again, with heat indices approaching or exceeding 105 to 110 degrees.

* IMPACTS...Dangerously high temperatures and humidity could quickly cause heat stress or heat stroke if precautions are not taken. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible. Also, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures and high humidity will occur. Heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
