Savannah mom looking to help students in need

SAVANNAH, Mo. (KQTV) — After being inspired by a social media post, one mother in Andrew County has started a “Ghost Hope Locker” project to assist the less fortunate who attend Savannah High School.
Cora Jackson, a business owner in Savannah and mom of Savannah students, was scrolling through social media when she came across a post about a school locker that kept essential items, from hygiene products to snacks and more, for students in need. After seeing the post, she remembered some of those who she may have seen who would need help at the town’s high school.
Realizing times are difficult in today’s economy, she began the process of possibly installing one of those lockers.
“I have seen the kids who wear the hoodies to cover the holes in the shirts. I’ve seen the kids who need it, and I’m just going to buy feminine products for my own children. Oh, my goodness, the price of things right now is astronomical,” Jackson shared. “So I know if we have good jobs and we’re barely making it, then there are other people that are barely making it too. So this is my way of just giving back.”
Jackson stated she’s no stranger to giving back, often before doing what she can to support local causes. Since using her business’s social media page to begin the project, she stated she’s received over $300 and numerous goods delivered to her front door.
“(The donation’s) have been phenomenal. Actually, the people donating are our current clients, so far, I’ve had people mail things from Amazon just to help, like this. They don’t even live in town, but they went to Savannah, so she wants to support the cause too.”
Jackson shared she’s in early talks with the district to establish a locker for these products at the high school, with hopes of also bringing one to the middle school.
She shared that anyone willing to donate personal hygiene products, such as tampons, body spray, sanitary wipes for women, and related items, will help her cause. Jackson also looks to hopefully stock the locker with snack options and spare clothes when necessary.
For those looking to assist with the locker or maybe establish one of their own, Jackson had a simple message.
“The quiet ones are the ones who won’t ask for help. So just look around and notice things, and if you see a need, fill the gap”.
Those who would like to donate to Jackson’s Ghost Hope Locker for Savannah High School can drop off donations at 1202 West Maple in Savannah or have items shipped to the same address. Electronic money donation options can also be arranged by emailing body.worx@yahoo.com or by visiting her Facebook page at Body Worx Massage Therapy LLC.
