ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — The Bode Ice Arena held its annual open house Sunday for National Skating Month.

The rink was packed on Sunday for the skating open house at the Bode Ice Arena in St. Joseph. The United Skates Figure Skating Club organized the event from 1 to 3 pm.

After arriving at the rink, locals could skate for free and receive 15-minute basic skating lessons from instructors throughout the event.

The program aims to open the door for future skaters.

“It is always the goal. We want lots of people to fall in love with skating and to do it for a lifetime. We usually have a really big crowd, and people get excited, and then they sign up for classes, and then they stick with us forever,” said Programs and Concessions Coordinator Christine Feuerbacher.

According to Feuerbacher, the event has been going on for the past 21 years, and the ice arena has no plans to stop.

During the event, attendees were eligible to win free session passes, a 6-week class, and Bode logo wear.
