Retro Con & TCG Mania to continue under new organizer

By: Darren Doyle

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — The organizers of the upcoming St. Joseph Retro Con and TCG Mania have announced a change in leadership, with a former organizer departing and Hawkins Events stepping in.

Hawkins Events, based out of the Kansas City area, has announced via its social media that it has assumed event host responsibilities due to “a situation involving an individual who is no longer involved with Fanarchy Media”.

It was important to act swiftly to protect the business’s integrity and ensure all operations continued as normal, according to Hawkins Events owner Matthew Hawkins.

“Whenever there’s any kind of issues like that, it’s very important to make sure that people, community, vendors, sponsorships, patrons, like everybody, know that integrity is more important than anything,” Hawkins shared. “I’ve been doing events for over 20 years, and there aren’t tons of stuff like (Retro Con) in St. Joe, and it’d be more of a disservice to the community to take away from it.”

Retro Con will still be held at the Civic Arena in St. Joseph on May 2-3.

The recently announced St. Joseph TCG Mania will also still be taking place at the Knights of Columbus building (1205 North 49th Terrace) on March 7 and 8.

For questions or updates on both events, patrons or potential sellers can find Hawkins Events on Facebook or email whatsyourevent@hawkinsevent.com.
