Second Harvest approved for tax credits, benefiting donors

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- A local nonprofit organization has been approved for a large sum of tax credits.

Second Harvest Community Food Bank was granted $250,000 worth of Neighborhood Assistance Program or “NAP” credits.

This approval will allow individuals to contribute to the company while receiving a tax benefit by donating in return.

Leading the charge is Second Harvest’s Chief Development Officer, Kristine Norris.

"This is a huge opportunity for individuals who own businesses, or rental properties, or farmers to be able to contribute to Second Harvest,” Norris said. “They will get not only a tax credit, but they also get the tax benefit of making a donation as well.”

These NAP credits will allow qualified donors with Missouri business income to reduce their tax liability by 50% of their total contribution.

Each donation must be a $500 minimum contribution.

Second Harvest offers its services across fifteen counties of Northwest Missouri and three counties of Northeast Kansas.

Anyone interested can make donations by navigating to Second Harvest's website at shcfb.org or sending them to 915 Douglas St.
