Tracking elevated fire risk today; cooler temperatures follow late week

Good morning and happy Wednesday.

We’re waking up to temperatures similar to yesterday, with readings in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Gusty conditions return today, with winds gusting between 20 and 30 mph. Combined with dry air, that will bring another day of elevated fire danger. Northeastern counties in our viewing area — including Harrison, Mercer and Grundy counties — are under a Red Flag Warning from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

With clearing skies, temperatures will climb higher than yesterday. Highs are expected to reach near 65 degrees this afternoon.

Clouds increase overnight, and there is a 20% chance of scattered showers Thursday afternoon. Conditions dry out Friday before rain and snow chances increase Friday night into Saturday.

Temperatures fall into the low 40s Friday and Saturday, then into the upper 30s Sunday and Monday.

As colder air moves in late Friday into Saturday, a few flurries are possible. Little to no accumulation is expected.
