Tracking rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday

Good morning and happy Wednesday. We are waking up to wet conditions as rain continues to push east.

Overnight, we saw widespread measurable rainfall, with nearly an inch reported in St. Joseph.

Conditions will briefly clear late this morning before additional rain moves in around lunchtime. Another wave of stronger storms is expected later this afternoon and into the evening.

Areas from Savannah, Missouri south are under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather. All hazards are possible, with the primary threats including heavy rain, localized flooding, small hail and gusty winds. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out.

High temperatures today will be significantly cooler behind yesterday’s cold front, with highs only reaching the 60s.

Rain and thunderstorms will continue into the evening and overnight hours, leading to another wet start Thursday morning. Rain chances are expected to taper off by mid- to late afternoon Thursday, bringing a brief break in the activity.

Chances for rain return Friday afternoon and evening. Looking ahead, conditions improve for Easter weekend and into next week.
