Missouri House Committee votes on expanding limits on protected buildings on colleges and universities

KMIZ

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KQTV) -- Most colleges and universities in the state of Missouri will no longer be able to designate buildings or properties as historic.

The House Committee on Commerce for the state met before the end of March to discuss HB 3490, which originally prevented any colleges or universities with over 400,00 residents within the city from applying for historic preservation.

After the meeting, the committee chose to remove the population-specific requirements.

However, public or private universities or colleges may opt in to local historic commissions guidelines and regulations.

The bill was passed by the committee by a 6-2 vote.
