ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- A free public workshop was hosted at the Launch Pad for aspiring entrepreneurs Monday afternoon.

The workshop was hosted by Missouri Western State University and entrepreneur advisor Shelbie Wigington. The workshop is part of an ongoing effort to support small business development and encourage entrepreneurship in the St. Joseph community.

Wigington said the biggest challenge for first-time entrepreneurs is marketing.

"Advertising, gotta be aware, gotta have that online presence," she said.

Wigington also said first-time entrepreneurs can avoid mistakes by having a business plan.

"A lot of people think it’s just a silly little step, but you’re really going to get those key essentials in the beginning," she said.

Wigington attributed Downtown St. Joseph as a good place to start a business because of the support it could bring.

Any entrepreneurs interested in starting a business can contact Wigington here.
