Central, Lafayette girls getting chance to play flag football

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Girls flag football is one of the fastest sports in the United States and two local high schools are embracing the new sport.

Central and Lafayette High Schools have created girls flag football teams as a way to give girls another sport to try and enjoy.

In Missouri, girls flag football is listed as an "emerging" sport for the Missouri State High School Activities Association. An emerging sport means that it is growing in popularity but is not yet fully sanctioned for state championships.

There are 18 states in the country that have sanctioned high school girls flag football including Kansas.

Central and Lafayette will face each other at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 2nd at Noyes Field in their final game of the season.
