City Council to vote on Krug Park bridge repairs, Noyes Pool sidewalk project and police vehicle donation

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph City Council is set to vote on repairs to the Krug Park bridge, the addition of a new sidewalk and the donation of retired police vehicles to Missouri Western State University during Monday’s meeting.

The council plans to vote on an ordinance that would allow the City to hire GFT Infrastructure, Inc. and spend $72,442.87 to design repairs for the bridge at Krug Park.

Krug Park is undergoing renovations, and City officials said the bridge needs repairs to ensure the park can safely reopen and fully operate. Although the bridge work is not part of the current construction project, the city wants to begin planning repairs now to help avoid delays in reopening Krug Park.

Another item on this agenda is to vote on an ordinance that would allow the city to hire KW Services Dirt Work and Excavation LLC and spend $20,625 from the Capital Projects Fund to repair sidewalks at Noyes Pool.

After the Noyes Lap Pool was demolished, the old sidewalk was removed. The staff have raised concerns about transporting chemicals from the storage building to the pool's filter room.

This project would build a new sidewalk connecting the existing storage building to the filter room.

Council will also seek to approve the St. Joseph Police Department to donate two retired patrol vehicles to MoWest for law enforcement training.

The retired patrol vehicles will be used for conducting practical exercises, including traffic stop scenarios and other vehicle-based law enforcement training.

The vehicles will allow academy instructors to replicate realistic law enforcement scenarios that students will encounter in the field.

St. Joseph's City Council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11, in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
