Benton Cardinals baseball falls to Excelsior Springs in the Class 4 State Sectionals

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Benton Cardinals season comes to an end in the Class 4 State Sectionals after losing to Excelsior Springs, 8-4.

It was a rematch between these two teams that met in March. Excelsior Springs won both of those games and came out with their third win against Benton with their season on the line.

The Cardinals grabbed a 4-3 lead in the third inning, but the Tigers would score five unanswered runs after that and move on to the Class 4 State Quarterfinals.

Benton ends their season with a 23-14 record and a Class 4 District 16 title.
