Maryville girls soccer’s season ends in shutout loss to Pleasant Hill in the State Quarterfinals

MARYVILLE, Mo. (KQTV) - The Maryville High School girls soccer team fell 4-0 to #1 Pleasant Hill in the Class 2 State Quarterfinals on Saturday.

The Chicks first goal came eight minutes into the game on a strike from junior Rylee Hull. Pleasant Hill then quickly scored again two minutes later on another goal from Hull to make it 2-0.

Pleasant Hill then got its third goal with four minutes left in the first half. Junior Kaydence Paschall's corner kick found Laney Sterling in the box, and the sophomore headed it through the net to make it 3-0.

In the second half, junior Kailynn Paschall added the final goal for Pleasant Hill in the 4-0 win to end Maryville's strong season.

"I would much rather come out here and play teams to that caliber than just win all the time. It makes the game so much better," said Maryville head coach Stephanie Ingram. "I'm so proud of this group. We fought all season, especially coming from a smaller school, so this loss definitely does not define our season."

The Maryville crowd in attendance all wore red in support of Spoofhounds junior goalie Claire Walter. Walter's younger brother Jacob is recovering from heart surgery after receiving a new heart.

"I think that just really shows how much this community supports our athletic programs. It's great that we can just ask them as simple as wear red to the game and everyone shows out," said Ingram. "This team showed out for it, they got red ribbons to wear in their hair. I feel so lucky to be from here."

Maryville girls soccer ends the season with a 12-5-1 record.
