Local team representing more than just baseball

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Post 11 is a baseball team in St. Joseph that is giving high school players an opportunity to play during the summer.

While most players joined this team to play America's pastime, they really began to be a part of something much bigger than themselves.

"It represents more than just a baseball team," said Team Manager Todd Kissel. "American Legion is supporting the veterans, which is something a lot of us hold dear. The veterans inside of this town are big supporters of this baseball team and they have really encouraged us."

Kissel isn't the only one feeling the support from local veterans. Maverick Castle-Wood and Colin Kelley are both sophomores on the team and recognize those who have played before them.

"It's pretty cool, because a lot of them played for Legion Baseball," said Kelley. "They set the foundation and now that we are bringing it back, it's pretty awesome."

"It feels great to see the older generation and older teams show up," said Castle-Wood. "I'm very grateful I get to play for this team and to show them what we can do."

Post 11 will play around 20 games this summer all the way up to the later part of July.
