Tracking a seasonable Friday and weekend heavy rain

Good morning and happy Friday.

We're starting the day with mild conditions as temperatures sit in the upper 50s to low 60s. Winds will remain relatively light throughout the day, and temperatures will climb back into the middle to upper 80s this afternoon under mostly sunny skies.

Cloud cover will begin to increase after lunchtime as our next storm system approaches. A few isolated showers are possible later this evening and overnight, but most locations will remain dry and measurable rainfall is not expected today.

Attention now turns to the weekend, as a Flood Watch goes into effect Saturday evening and continues through Sunday night. A slow-moving storm system is expected to bring widespread rainfall and the potential for flooding across northwest Missouri, northeast Kansas and southeast Nebraska.

Rain will begin moving into the area Saturday evening and continue through much of Sunday. The heaviest rainfall is expected across far northern northwest Missouri and southeast Nebraska, where 2 to 4 inches of rain may fall. Much of the rest of northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas could receive 1 to 2 inches of rainfall.

Because of the potential for heavy rainfall rates, flash flooding, river flooding and stream flooding are all possible this weekend. Areas that have received significant rainfall over the past several weeks may be especially vulnerable to flooding concerns.

Remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown. Never drive through flooded roadways, and be prepared for changing conditions if you have outdoor plans this weekend.

Behind the system, temperatures will cool back into the low 80s on Sunday and remain in the upper 70s to low 80s early next week. Dry weather returns Monday through Wednesday, with the next chance for rain holding off until Thursday.
