Tracking scattered rain Friday and weekend heat

Good morning and happy Friday.

We're starting the day with temperatures in the upper 60s, making it just a little cooler than Thursday morning. A few light showers moved through overnight, but thankfully most locations saw little to no measurable rainfall, with the heavier pockets remaining closer to the Kansas City metro and areas farther south.

Scattered showers will linger through the morning, especially before the 8 a.m. hour, before gradually coming to an end by the afternoon. Conditions will dry out through the evening, but cloud cover will be slower to clear, keeping afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Clouds will remain in place overnight into early Saturday, and a few isolated showers or sprinkles are possible Saturday morning. Any lingering rain will be light and brief, with skies gradually becoming partly cloudy through the afternoon.

Temperatures will quickly warm this weekend despite the lingering clouds. Highs will climb into the upper 80s Saturday, with heat index values reaching the low 90s. By Sunday, temperatures return to the low 90s, and heat index values are expected to climb into the triple digits.

The hot and humid pattern continues through much of next week, with afternoon highs in the 90s and heat index values remaining above 100 degrees. If you'll be spending time outdoors, be sure to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and avoid prolonged exposure during the hottest part of the afternoon.
