Get to know: Jim Ingram, Republican Primary Candidate for U.S. Representative District 6

Jim Ingram Campaign

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Jim Ingram is a veteran, a longtime small-business owner, and now a hopeful for U.S. Representative, District 6.

After diving into the mind of thinking around the Constitution and ways to improve it, Ingram wrote a book about three years ago. He said that when he sent it out to lawmakers and individuals running for office and got no response, he decided to begin looking into running for office himself.

"I basically decided that I need to get off my couch and I need to get involved if something was going to be done, and that's what I decided to do," Ingram said.

Some of those issues he would like to tackle if he makes it to Washington, D.C., later this year include a balanced budget, except in times of war, uniform election laws for paper ballots, and proof of citizenship, among other issues. One of the bigger issues he would like to help address is term limits for members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

"In my book, I suggested that 2 terms for the Senate, that'd be 12 years, and the same 12 years for the House of Representatives, that'd be 6 terms. You come in, you do your thing, you spend your 12 years, and then you rotate out," Ingram shared. "Now if you're in the House, you could then rotate up to the Senate and have a couple of terms there, but it creates a turnover in the people in office. Like in Missouri, we have an 8-year limit, and it's worked out well for Missouri. "

Ingram believes his time running businesses also makes for a keen sense to hold office. He has had his hand in many different types of businesses and has been running one in Liberty, Missouri, since 1998.

Using that experience, he would like to enact a Business Bill of Rights to protect against what he believes are unjustified practices. Such as when he claims he was rejected for an account by Chase Bank when running for office.

Ingram is up against Nathan Willett, Chris Stigall, Cody Oshel and Nathanael Schultz in the U.S. Representative District 6 Republican Primary on August 4. To learn more about Ingram's campaign, click here.
