ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph School District's Adult Education and Literacy Program celebrated its graduating class of 2026 this week, with 105 adults walking across the stage to receive their diplomas.

Speakers shared their experiences in adult learning and urged others in similar situations to take the leap and pursue their GED.

Graduates also asked for understanding and no judgment regarding difficult life circumstances that can lead to different paths.

Many praised their families and friends who supported them throughout their journey.

Eighteen-year-old recent graduate and student speaker Breanna Jenkins emphasized the importance of a strong support system.

"I'm happy," Jenkins said. "All my friends are here. My family is here. I had them in tears, which was the goal. It definitely helped a lot that I had all my people here tonight. As I said in my speech, they say it takes a village, but I had an army."

Twenty-seven-year-old Alexis Williams shared her thoughts on the companionship she felt with her graduating class and encouraged others to pursue their education regardless of age.

"It's really heartwarming to see everyone, no matter what age you are," Williams said. "There's some 45-year-olds, 22-year-olds, 19-year-olds. It's amazing that everyone can come back and just do it. It doesn't matter if you're forced to go back, if you just feel like going back, just do it. It's so worth it."

More information on the St. Joseph School District's Adult Education and Literacy Program can be found on the school district's website.

Congratulations to all of these graduates!
