Tracking a hot & sticky Wednesday

Good morning and happy Wednesday!

We're starting the day with another calm and mild morning across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. Temperatures are in the upper 60s to low 70s, with light winds and the possibility of a few areas of patchy fog before sunrise. Otherwise, it's another quiet start to the day.

High pressure remains in control, keeping skies mostly sunny and dry. A few passing clouds are possible, but sunshine will dominate the forecast. Temperatures will warm quickly through the morning, reaching the middle to upper 80s by lunchtime before climbing to around 90 degrees this afternoon.

Humidity will gradually increase through the day, making it feel a bit muggier than earlier this week. If you'll be spending time outdoors, remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and take frequent breaks from the heat.

Tonight will remain warm, with overnight lows only falling back into the low 70s.

Our next chance for rain arrives Thursday. Most of the day will stay dry, but a weak disturbance could spark a few isolated showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder during the afternoon and early evening, mainly along and south of U.S. Highway 36 and closer to the Interstate 70 corridor. Rain coverage will be limited, and many locations will remain dry.

Any showers will end Thursday evening, with dry weather returning Friday and continuing into the weekend. Temperatures will remain in the low 90s through Thursday before climbing into the middle and upper 90s this weekend as the hot summer pattern continues.
